Jolie Harris
"Jolie imparts her own stories with a sharing vision, imparting a highly dynamic
sprit on canvas." -- Eydi Lampasona, artist and instructor

Cincinnati artist, Jolie Harris has always felt the magnetic draw of paint and
canvas.  She studied at the California College of Design in Newport Beach but
for years thereafter various business ventures kept her focus elsewhere--but
the longing for visual self-expression always remained.  It is only in more
recent years that she has been able to fully immerse herself in the study and
exploration of painting, to finally address and execute a life-long desire.

Workshops with top artists both locally and abroad, as well as study at Boca
Raton Museum of Art School where she focused on collage, color theory and
dimensional technique, have given her the skill and the confidence that now
exudes from her paintings.

Jolie is a process painter, working through stream of consciousness with
acrylic paint, various mediums, and incorporating elements of collage.  She
begins by creating a textural foundation on the canvas. This foundation is
carved and etched utilizing a variety of tools and brushes.  Often, hand-
painted papers are subtly introduced to the developing surface.

“My work is highly influenced by music, energy, and movement.  As I immerse
myself in the process, the color, rhythm and flow of each work, the rest of the
world begins to fade. The works emerge from a source within, and come
spontaneously as I go into a deeper state of consciousness.  I find inspiration
from the ocean, sunlight and the sounds and smells of nature. I am refreshed
and invigorated by the teachings of Deepak Chopra and the meditational
effects of walking near water – the ocean when possible, or simply over the
bridges of the Ohio River.  My work reflects the passion of heat and fire—
when I listen to Spanish flamenco or Brazilian samba; and the calming,
sensual coolness of the river and ocean, inspired by Deepak Chopra or the
music of Over the Rhine.”

Jolie considers her influences to be the spontaneous work of Jackson Pollock,
the tones and hues of Helen Frankenthaler, and the textural gestures of Van
Gogh.  She paints both in her downtown studio in Cincinnati and in Delray
Beach, Florida, and her paintings are in many private and corporate
collections.
