Lauren Macko has been interested in the arts since she was very
young. After receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from
Bowling Green State University in 2005, and a Master of Fine Arts
Degree from Bradley University in 2008, she moved back to the
Medina area where she was raised. Using images of cells,
bacteria, and diseases as a starting point for her paintings, she
chooses to abstract them to show what may become real. Much of
what used to be considered merely science-fiction is now fact.
Her paintings pose questions such as whether new technology
should be used for questionable experiments such as stem cell
research, genetic engineering, or cloning. Are society’s
technological advancements really advancing us? Or are these
advancements to blame for the massive rise in Autism, allergies,
and cancer? Utilizing the idea that art is a carrier for social
change, she encourages you to consider these issues, as well as
to ruminate on your role in the environment and society.
