Inspired by nature, I explore my aesthetic sensibilities through botanical
subjects. My initial approach to a subject is representational drawings
and watercolor paintings that will lead me to impressionistic and
experimental freedom.
I love flowers and their fate: from blossoms of color to fading, wilting
and dying. There is a distinct beauty in every stage of metamorphosis
and it moves me to work. The transition of observations into paintings
encompasses a personal identity of time and change.
In recent years my work has taken on a new direction both in subject
and medium choice. The focus of this work became a very personal one
predicated on a desire to create a painting for each of my four children
for their fortieth birthday. Wishing to convey my deep feelings for them I
chose the iconic symbol for love – the heart – as my subject. Each
painting was a montage of forty miniature paintings using multiple
mediums.
The heart image continues to be the focal point of my work
encompassing a diverse exploration of multiple mediums, changes in
scale and format, and challenges in design and technique.
