Mary is a graduate of Denison University in Granville, Ohio, where she
earned a BFA in Studio Art. There she studied an array of disciplines, but
became entranced by abstract art in particular. The process of abstract
painting allows her to explore the subject matter throughout the
development of the painting. Though the subject matter of each painting is
personal to the artist, she feels that the beauty of abstract painting is that it
lends individual interpretations to each viewer—that ultimately everyone will
walk away with their own relation to the artists implied sentiment. Mary has
painted with a variety of apparatuses, including but not limited to turkey
basters, dish brushes, squeegees, and sand paper. Every tool used
reflects the artist’s perspective on the theme or focus of the painting.
Since graduating, Mary has exhibited regionally in Ohio, and the Eastern
United States, and in 2008 was selected to exhibit in a show in Italy.
Pursuing her fascination with abstract painting, the artist is currently
working in Markelsville, PA. She works at Perry County Council of the Arts
managing their satellite facility, Landis House. This branch of PCCA is
home to creative commons, and dedicated to the supporting the performing
and visual arts and crafts in Perry County and surrounding regions.
