I was born and raised in Canton, Ohio amidst the rich heritage of my Italian
family where my traditional
values and appreciation of nature was established. I began drawing at a
young age and a neighbor who noticed this interest gave me my first drawing
book by Walter Foster and I was spellbound. My father was a weekend
fisherman so I grew up around the surrounding lakes absorbing the splendor
of the striking landscapes,fields,streams and lakes known to Ohio. I remember
being particularly engaged by the sparkle of the sunlight created on the water
at dusk. It danced like diamonds across the water and I was entranced by it
then as I am to this day. Many of my paintings are from my friends gardens or
nearby places but my travels to the Mediterranean and, in particularly, Italy
has become another favorite source.
Though my career took me in another direction I eventually returned to my art
and have been painting steadily ever since. I have been working in oils
mastering the complicated techniques of the Old Masters and their use of light
to highlight small, intimate details that might otherwise go unnoticed by a
casual observer. Devising palettes and mixing colors gives me much pleasure
in the creative process. Color is so alive. Always open to enriching my life I
have recently expanded my creative horizons to include the use of acrylics
and mixed media for an additional approach to painting.
I remember my first art show and the responses of the people and what an
honor and inspiration it was to be there. I hope each of my creations is filled
with my enthusiasm for life and is inspiring and pleasurable to those who view
it. That is the message I wish to project.
I exhibit my art in various galleries in the area and at group exhibits sponsored
by the Canton Artists League. In September 2008 I had a solo exhibit at The
Little Art Gallery in North Canton, Ohio. My works are collected by individuals
throughout the United States and most recently by the The Little Art Gallery
for their Permanent Collection.
