Nature has always meant freedom to me.  Growing up in western Colorado, I was
a “nature girl” who wandered the mountains searching for arrowheads, fossils
and wildlife.  As an artist, I find creative freedom expressing my response to the
natural world. Using layers of color, light and texture, I strive to create a flowing
compositional rhythm. I use watermedia (acrylic, watercolor and casein)
individually and combined to achieve these layers.  Sometimes I also incorporate
charcoal, pastel, textured surfaces and collage to underscore the line, shape
and symbolism within the composition and add more visual interest.

My work has been juried into major national and international exhibitions,
including the Texas Watercolor Society 59th Annual Exhibition, 16th Annual
International Society of Experimental Artists Exhibition, Western Colorado
Watercolor Society 15th Annual Exhibition and North East Watercolor Society
30th International Exhibition.  My paintings also have appeared locally at Avon
Lake Library, Beck Center for the Arts and Willoughby Fine Arts Center.  I have
a bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts - Humanities (emphases in art and writing)
from Mesa State College in Colorado, where I graduated magna cum laude.

After spending many years in suburbia, working in corporate marketing and
publishing, doing art “on the side,” I recently started a new life in Ohio farm
country.  I have taken up “old fashioned” pursuits like vegetable gardening,
canning and beekeeping, and I’m more aware of the drifting hawk, the spring
thunderstorm and deer grazing in my orchard.  I love the new freedom I have
discovered here in the country, and I am excited by the prospect of painting it.
