I have lived in Medina for close to 10 years now, and am excited to see it slowly growing
into a community which appreciates and supports fine art, and those who create it.
The world of art opened its doors to me during my childhood, when I was always drawing
abstract designs, surreal places and strange creatures. My father is an accomplished
artist and had his studio in the house, so I was exposed early on to the adventures of
painting and learned many subtle aspects of the craft from him.
Growing up, my interest has always been with the great impressionists, and the more
contemporary artists - those artists who seemed to see things differently or things that
weren't there, or to see things that were just outside the normal line of sight.
At The University of Akron, I formally studied art and drawing but quickly became
disinterested in the tediousness of drawing chairs with pencil and paper bags with
charcoal. I wanted to do something more.
Over the last several years, I have experienced a strong and growing passion for art and
painting, and have since developed a style, using acrylic paint and canvas, which I find
very exciting - and unique. From portraits to abstracts, I enjoy working freely, using
bolder color and thicker application, and perhaps going against learned fundamentals
when I can.
While primarily using a brush or an artists knife, I will often experiment with household
tools or other common items to find new textures and applications. Sometimes these
experiments work, sometime's they don't – but it's always interesting to see what
happens. I want my work to be alive, emotional and moving. To me, one's paintings are
as personal and as limitless as one's thoughts. Towards that end, my goal is not
necessarily to be technically correct, but rather to allow the brush and paint to guide
me…wherever they decide to go.
